Visitation
Can we visit the puppies?
The best and only way, in my opinion, to choose a breeder is to visit their home.
Puppies should never be raised in kennels, they should be raised in a home with children and lots of love. All great breeders invite you to snuggle their adorable puppies with them. They are super proud of their precious puppies and take time to sit with you and answer questions.
Personalities
How are the puppies socialized?
Puppies personalities are largely developed by the breeder and all of the socializing they are exposed to. Puppies raised with tons of love and occasional correction become the best version of themselves. You are looking for confident, happy dogs that are comfortable in any situation.
Puppies also should be taught not to yap as that is an unpleasing trait. When all the puppies needs are being met, they don’t yap.
Exposure to noises, beeping, fireworks, thunder, vacuum cleaner.
What noises are the puppies exposed to?
Puppies should be exposed to all kinds of experiences and noises to help them grow in confidence
Dog food
What kind of food are the puppies eating?
Keeping puppies on the same diet is very important to maintain their digestion. Puppies can develop loose stool when transitioning from the breeder to your home because of all changes in their environment. If that occurs, you can add a tablespoon of 100% pure canned pumpkin to their kibble. It adds extra fiber to their digestion and firms of the stool.
Meeting the Parents
Can I meet the parents of the puppy?
Meeting the mother of your pup is important, but recognize that you’re petting their precious puppies and they are very, very protective.
Bernedoodle breeders that use AI don’t have fathers on site for unnecessary breeding .
At what age can I take my puppy home?
Puppies need to be with their moms until eight weeks to properly nurse and wean them and transition them to solid food.
How do I prepare my house to bring a puppy home?
Great breeders want to make sure you have everything you need for a successful transition to your home. They will give you a list of things to have on hand and walk you through the steps of setting up your Puppy Haven.
What is a Puppy Haven?
A Puppy Haven is a space where your puppy can feel secure and can master the space while adjusting to your home. Puppy Haven’s have bovine bones for teething, Kong toys for playing and balls that are appropriate for puppies. If a puppy has been potty trained by the breeder, they will let you know when they need to go to the bathroom if they’re in the Puppy Haven. Every time a puppy wakes up from a nap they always pee.
So it’s a good practice to find them yawning and scoop them up and take them outside.
Puppy Haven’s are made up of small doggy enclosures usually with a door so the children can get in and out .
They should be 4 x 4.
As the puppy masters, that space you can enlarge it .
Are puppies sleeping through the night?
One of the hardest things to transition a puppy in is sleeping through the night. When puppies are trained to sleep through the night from the first day, then they are less likely to wake up in the middle of the night and want to go outside.
Let’s sleep is an important of all of our days and waking up to take a puppy outside in the middle of the night isn’t fun .
How do I confirm this puppy is healthy?
Puppies need to be dewormed and have their first 2 doses of Spectra 5 vaccines before they go home. Deworming is a process that takes as long as 6 months.
They should also have a Vet certificate of excellent health.
To confirm you have a healthy puppy you will take your puppy to your Vet within the first two weeks of bringing it home. At that Vet appointment you should plan on bringing a stool sample and set up routine vaccines as well as limes and rabies vaccines.
